Fishing these tiny flies--whether as nymphs or dries--requires fine tippets and skilled casts. Fishing the Midge was welcomed by a small, dedicated following of midge fly-fishers when it debuted in 1972; since then it has become a classic, and a whole new school of fly-fishing has grown up around it. The revised edition includes updated information for tying and fishing midge (and related) patterns.

About the Author
The late Ed Koch was a fly-fishing guide, writer, and lecturer. He lived in southcentral Pennsylvania where he was active in groups including Trout Unlimited and the Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Association.

Am I really that old?

I purchased this book in the early to mid 1970's. I read it then and found it to be usefull and informative. I wondered if it was still in print and found that it is. MY copy (copyright 1972) is a small hardcover and if there are updates to the new editions, then I am unaware of them.
The book discusses fishing small flies for wary trout in clear streams, mostly in the east, but the techniques and flies used will work most anywhere.
Several different fly patterns are discussed and there are well photographed (black and white in my copy) tying instructions.
I have fallen somewhat away from fly-fishing, but still go out and whip the water surface to a froth on occasion. The flies described in this book work (at least in California and Oregon); I especially like the terrestrial patterns.
I haven't read the book in over 30 years, but I recall enjoying it and liking the fly patterns.

hatches of Eastern spring creeks and how to deal with them without drowning in technical jargon. Ed uses a minimum of fly patterns, all simple to tye.Much of the
book is told in story form to make it for a pleasant read.
This (1988) update of the 1972 first edition has included new tackle and flies. The information contained in this book will be useful on eastern tailwaters.
I truly enjoyed Fishing The Midge by ED KOCH.

The issue was not "Who of David's sons will be king?" the author points out, but more likely " Is there any of David's sons fit to sit on the throne of David?"

I have said it over and over about this series it is really worth using. It is well written and offers a depth of understanding lacking in most modern works. Not one of the works in this series has been a disappointment.

The Samuel commentary is writen among those in the position too often critically. But this book has been the exegesis from the text. This commentary is one book that you can trust.
