The analytical methodology for the determination of trace pharmaceuticals in complex environmental matrices is still evolving, and the number of methods described in the literature has grown considerably. This volume leads the way, keeping chemistry students, toxicologists, engineers, wastewater managers and related professionals current with developments in this quickly evolving area.

About the Author
Dr. Sandra Pérez Solsona, (80 publications and 17 book chapters; H-index=27), Barcelona (Spain). Since May 2005, research associate at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research IDÆA-CSIC in Barcelona (Spain). She has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona (2003). Postdoctoral researcher at the State University of New York at Buffalo (2003-2005). Her work is focused on studying the occurrence, distribution and degradation of pollutants in the aquatic environment. Use of advanced mass spectrometry techniques such as the hybrid techniques UPLC-QToF-MS and UPLC-QExactive-MS, for the structural elucidation of novel transformation products and metabolites of organic pollutants. She uses suspect screening and non-target approaches based on high resolution MS for the detection of polar emerging contaminants and for assessing their elimination and transformation in both natural processes and engineered systems. She has been involved in different EU projects (EMCO, SANDRINE and GLOBAQUA), NSF projects in EEUU and Spanish national projects (CEMAGUA and SCARCE). Principal investigator of CSI-Environment (Marie Curie Actions ITN CSI:Environment PITN-GA-2010-264329).

Prof. dr. Barcelo Damia, Director of the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) and Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA), Barcelona, Spain. His expertise is in water quality assessment and management, fate, risk and removal of emerging contaminants in wastewater treatment plants and analysis, fate and risk of emerging contaminants and nanomaterials in the aquatic environment. He published over 900 papers, 200 book chapters and has h index 91. He was a coordinator of several national and EU projects and at the moment he coordinates two EU projects: GLOBAQUA , on multiple stressors in the aquatic environment and SEA-on-a-CHIP, on the development of sensor technolgies for emerging contamaints in marine aquaculture. He is CoEditor in Chief of the journal Science of Total Environment and the book series Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry, both form Elsevier..

About the Author
A los nueve años, Stevens comenzó a asistir a los servicios dominicales de la escuela en un templo que enseña Kriya Yoga. Tan pronto como llegó a la edad permitida (17 años), finalmente recibió la iniciación en Kriya Yoga. En 1994, Stevens recibió una licenciatura en Física por la Universidad de California, Los Ángeles (UCLA), como uno de los tres mejores estudiantes de la Facultad de Física. Pocos años después de recibir su diploma, a Stevens se le ofreció la inscripción instantánea en un programa de postgrado de la UCLA, donde cursó estudios de Ingeniería y fue profesor de física de pregrado. En la construcción de una carrera después de la universidad, Stevens vivió en varios países y tres continentes. Soy iniciado en Kriya Yoga.Actualmente formo parte de SRF en Venezuela.Reconozco que hay muchas personas que dicen ser Kriyabanes y no se portan acordes con las enseñanzas del maestro.
El Libro tiene cosas buenas y tu intención es maravillosa amigo Stevens y en eso te apoyo,quitar el velo de la ignorancia de la humanidad.Las técnicas son buenas,pero se te olvidó algo,el guru interno es la intuición,y como se desarrolla ese gurú interno???Yogananda lo explica a sus estudiantes. Yo recomiendo de todo corazón a las personas que se suscriban a las lecciones de SRF porque en ellas se enseña de manera fácil,didáctica y practica como llevar una vida realizada y feliz.Es el mejor regalo que pudo hacer Babaji a través de Paramahansa a la humanidad.
Por otra parte el vegetarianismo,la devoción a Dios,la iniciación por un gurú es necesaria…Porque? Para poder llegar a niveles de conciencia superiores.Incluso hay muchos casos confirmados de personas que llegaron a la demencia por practicar sin la supervisión de un maestro espiritual fidedigno,ya que, entes oscuros ven la energía que se mueve con la técnica de kriya y al no tener la protección de un guru es como lanzarse al océano en medio de una tormenta sólo porque sabe nadar,dudo que alguien con sentido común cometa esa locura.
En autobiografía de un yogi el maestro dice QUE EL KRIYA SEA TU GURU… el maestro nos indica el camino y como decimos,los atajos para llegar a Dios más rápido,nos aclara las dudas y el éxito está asegurado.El Dogma debe ser erradicado,solo el amor verdadero,la solidaridad,la pureza del corazón y el Kriya bien aplicado salvaran a la humanidad de la autodestrucción.
El Libro es bueno y las técnicas son muy bien explicadas,más repito sin un guía que te oriente es como ir al africa con mapa sin conocer su idioma,su tierra y sus costumbres.Este libro es como un mapa,pero faltan otros elementos indispensables si se quiere avanzar.Recomiendo Autobiografia de un Yogui, el Yoga Shidda de jesus.Por otra parte Yogananda Está vivo y guía su obra a través del espíritu inmortal,recuerda que el cuerpo muere más el alma es infinita.De que Yogananda está en tu corazón y te guía en las acciones nobles que ejecutas eso no puede negarse.Bendiciones.

El material incluye una meticulosa recopilación de las técnicas de Kriya tal cual fueran impartidas por Lahiri Mahasaya y luego presentadas por Paramahansa Yoganada al mundo occidental. El autor, como bien se lee en el prefacio, obviamente por años realizó la ardua labor de investigar y analizar los textos originales, y los expone en un libro-cuaderno de actividades fácil de seguir.

Desde las primeras páginas el autor establece un camino conciso así como ciertos principios útiles a seguir. Por ejemplo, no tienes que renunciar a tu religión actual ni dejar de tener una vida en familia ya que como él lo dice, el estilo de vida de familia y obligaciones de trabajo, al ser más difícil fortalecerá la mente, siendo cualidad necesaria para progresar con Kriya.

El libro parece estar destinado tanto al principiante como a quien haya sido iniciado previamente, y desee profundizar en su práctica. Altamente recomendable.

Es para aquéllos de nosotros que por años hemos estado en la búsqueda de la paz interior, intentado progresar en la práctica de la meditación, pero también para el principiante que no conoce nada del tema, pero que posee dentro de sí, el anhelo de encontrar un camino hacia la iluminación.
Es interesante destacar, que el libro tiene un cuaderno de actividades para que una persona de hoy día, (tanto el principiante como alguien experimentado) pueda llevar una vida de obligaciones familiares y de trabajo, y al mismo tiempo logre avanzar en el camino de su espiritualidad.
Al principio y al leer la descripción del libro, debo confesar que tenía mis dudas. Sin embargo, la autenticidad y sinceridad del contenido me atrapó y sedujo de manera irrevocable. Las revelaciones aquí presentadas son más valiosas que cualquier ganancia material o monetaria que se pueda imaginar.

For those who find themselves dissatisfied with the weak, "seeker-sensitive", man-centered gospel that convicts no one and evicts no change, Pastor Chantry's book is a drink of refreshing water. Chantry takes a long look at how Christ and Paul spoke of man, sin, and salvation, and applies it to how we should witness today. The modern church is sick and often unwilling to confront sin on anything but a superficial level, but there is a biblical model to follow, as Chantry outlines here.

This is a short book, an easy read, but it just might be earth-shattering in its impact on your walk, ministry, and witness.

(I would also recommend Murray's "The Invitation System" for a look at where modern evangelical practices are badly hurting the church.)

Not for me

I think this might work best for parents of easy to average children who feel they are in over their head due to their own parents not providing a role model that they care to emulate. It was not for me.

The program borrows from positive discipline and mindfulness acceptance therapy in about equal measure. (i.e. Give two positive choices, accepting the moment as it is and being in control of your reactions.) The book as a whole has a kind of Beatles /Buddhist flavor (ala `All You Need is Love`). There is a strong focus on relationship building, similar to both Greene or Gardener. All of the ideas were familiar, but recombined in an interesting way. The book offered a fresh viewpoint and some new tips for implementing the strategies.

I would describe this as a philosophical approach. Some research is sited. More research is alluded to, but not referenced (i.e. `unnamed research shows that...`). Also, the author is not clear regarding what research clearly shows, vs. conclusions she drew from the research herself, vs. what is more of a `personally held belief, not actually refuted by research I am personally familiar with`. It's similar to Dobson`s _The Strong-Willed Child_ and Greene`s. _The Explosive Child_ in this respect. The author has extensive experience in early childhood education. My understanding is that she has no children of her own.

I liked: Bailey's description of the Flip Flop was just great. I've read about the idea before; this description was the clearest I've seen. Also, her recommendations for being assertive and for staying calm were helpful. These weren't novel ideas, but more strategies to use on the tricky days are more than welcome.

I didn't love: (1) The writing seemed unnecessarily circular and repetitive to me. At one point, I thought I had lost my place (I hadn't.) (2) Bailey seemed to have some strongly held values, and didn't hold back. I wonder if she realized she is ok using praise to encourage characteristics she values (helpfulness, persistence), but is extremely hard on parents who reinforce success, stoicism, or compliance. I don't even disagree very much with her value system, I just found it odd that she didn't seem to realize it was the same general principle. She also had a fairly preachy, there is no such thing as `good enough parenting`, do it my way, or your kids will be in therapy forever tone at times. Which she alternated with, `just love yourself and accept the moment as it is`. I found the combination both irritating and jarring. (3) Finally, she stated her opinion just like it was a fact. I can read a book like that, because I'd take a tip from the devil himself, if it worked and didn't involve hurting anyone else. But I find it almost unbearably annoying.

You, on the other hand, may love this book and find it works beautifully with your child. I'd just recommend trying it at the library before you buy.

I will honestly admit that I started skimming about half way through, the second time Bailey said that chronic noncompliance had only 3 causal factors: Stress, chronic stress from a bad home life, and parents inadvertently reinforcing bad behavior. Which is simply not accurate, in addition to being demoralizing. Most of the experts in the field also talk about temperament (both child and parent), goodness of fit, and underlying disabilities (as well as subclinical issues). I wasn't enjoying the read anyway, and that was it for me. I don't need more of that in my life, I get plenty for free at the grocery store. I did keep a close eye out and double checked the back for citations. Didn't find any additional.

Wish I had this when my 5yr old was 3!

I found myself mad at my 5 year old all the time, and very short tempered around him. It felt like I was always saying 'no' or 'stop that'. It got to the point where I didn't even want to take him anywhere because I didn't want to have to correct him the whole time we were there. In short, I was not having fun being a mom. This book was recommended to me and I started reading it thinking, 'oh my gosh, I do that, is that wrong? Is that why he acts this way? Is that why I act that way?' The book showed me where I had made some poor parenting choices and how re-phrasing things or giving my son real choices he was in charge of could make a big difference. I started changing the way I disciplined him immediately and it has made an immense difference! I've even got my husband to read it because he can see the change in both my son and me. I'm not angry all the time, my son isn't in time-out all the time. We're not fighting about getting dressed and getting in the car, and all the other things that are daily life chores that were once difficult. My style of parenting wasn't working and something had to change. This book made that change happen and has made our house and happier place. Don't get me wrong, there are still hiccups- but it doesn't turn ugly anymore. I only wish that I had known about this book when my son was 3.5 instead of 5, a lot of things could have been avoided!

Amazing Book!

This book has really changed the dynamics of our entire family and how we relate to one another. One youngest is fortunate enough to attend a cutting-edge lab NAEYC accredited lab school where they practice Conscious Discipline. As I watched her those first few months, I realized very quickly that she seemed to be better equipped with social/emotional skills than our oldest... and to some extent her parents! When you watch a toddler go from full-on toddler meltdown to watching her calm herself using deep breathing techniques that many adults can't even do, you start to wonder what this stuff is all about. We all began reading this book - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles - and it has really helped all of us. People will often stop us and say, "WOW! That was amazing! How did you do that?" or "Can you teach me?" I love that Becky Bailey gives practical, real-life examples throughout the entirety of the book. Every sentence is full of things that you can immediately put to use. There are lots of highlighted sentences in our copies of this book. I've read TONS of parenting books, but none of them come close to this one. In my mind, there is nothing better out there anywhere!

Asbestos Head is the man

“Asbestos Head” is not a book about the Hollow Earth, as erroneously stated by one of the other reviewers. I downloaded the work (it's free) in the hope of reading some entertaining stuff about flat earth conspiracies or the like. Instead, I was forced to sift through a short fiction story with an almost stereotyped “hippie” message.

Everything is subjective, everything constantly changes, Christianity and capitalism are authoritarian, love and sex should be free, why bother having kids, smoking weed and using psychedelic drugs is the way to go, live in the Now, love and forgive everyone unconditionally, meditate á la Zen, read Kerouac or Alan Watts…

Weirdly, this wasn't published circa 1967, but in 2008! I frequently laughed out loud when reading about Asbestos Head (the main character) and his weird friends Pin Head, Pot Head and Machine Head, to mention just a few. The hippie and love summer message is absolutely undiluted, making you see how absurd and unpractical it really is. Several characters are typical “misunderstood geniuses” or “INTJs” who come across as awkward and slightly autistic to everyone else. The solution to all problems seems to be to empty your mind and stop thinking altogether (or, I suppose, smoke weed). The anti-social angle is also obvious.

Interestingly, the short story has a misogynistic slant. The two women, Matriushka and Mary, are the two most negative characters. Mary (her name isn't a co-incidence) is depicted as a prostitute who once claimed to experience a virgin birth. Matriushka is a shallow promiscuous gossip who nevertheless demands “commitment” from Asbestos, who refuses and treats her to a lecture on free love. In the last chapter, Matriushka is locked up in a basement and apparently abandoned by a Zen monk! That a story about unconditional love and anti-authoritarianism turns out to be anti-female may or may not tell us something about the author's own “issues”. Another interesting fact is that Machine Head, who is a Cyborg and part of a hive mind, is treated as a positive alternative to humanity, although he too falls short of the true vibes of the Now.

What's the story *really* about? Presumably mimicking Robert Heinlein, the author reveals in the very last chapter that Asbestos Head is Jesus Christ who has returned to Earth to teach his true gospel. This presumably explains why his parents are named Joseph and Mary (the prostitute – note also the conflation of the Virgin Mary with Mary Magdalene), while Asbestos himself is said to be an “orphan”. Since Jesus-Asbestos turns out to be a hippie Buddhist, the world refuses to listen, prompting the misunderstood savior to commit Japanese-style suicide (seppuku) in the last chapter! Without this plot twist, the story would just be a long litany of pseudo-spiritual preaching for the eternally unsaved.

I was waiting for the Flat Earth /Hollow Earth material, so I admit I was somewhat disappointed by “Asbestos Head”, but I suppose you get what you (don't) pay for. The author Eric Dubay describes himself as a 30+ American living in Thailand where he teaches Yoga and Wing Chun part time while exposing the New World Order full time. His Youtube channel does include expositions on the Flat Earth, but also attacks on “Freemasons” and “Jews”, making you wonder how unconditionally he really loves his fellow men (or Cyborgs). But yes, if you're into conspiracy, I'm sure there's more where this stuff comes from…
