About the Author
My spiritual journey began over 27 years ago, due to my great grandparents and grandparents from both sides of my family. I was introduced to Espiritismo, and this is how my journey into various spiritual paths began. As a child I saw spirits and paranormal activities. These experiences caught my attention. I wanted to learn more and continue exploring these paths. I am passionate about teaching these spiritual truths. As an initiated priest, I feel is my job keep these traditions alive. I am Omo Oshun and Oriate Olu Osain in the Lukumi/Yoruba tradition. First off, I was first baptized in Espiritismo, Sanse, 21 Division, and then received Santo Lavao. Afterwards I was initiated in to the Palo Mayombe tradition and was crowned in Osha. I later received Osain and the ceremony of Irete Kutan. In this ceremony you receive Igba Osha which gives you the title and rank of Oriate, which is the highest rank within the Olorishas. Alafia, Ashe & Nsala Malecum ~Tata Oriate

Very good basic overview of Palo Mayombe

Very good basic overview of Palo Mayombe. I would definitely recommend it to the non initiated in this tradition as well as those who are initiated and are looking for more knowledge. If you are looking for secrets or a deep philosophical explanation of Palo Mayombe this is not the book for you.

Fun fantasy mysteries

Thraxas is a not-well-enough-known series of funny fantasy mystery novels, kinda like Hawk&Fisher visit Discworld.

Important to note that Death and Thraxas is two complete hard to find novels- "Thraxas at the Races" & "Thraxas and the Elvish Isles", both out of print.

Oddly, this world uses Vancian Magic!

Fun and Funny Light Reading

This book is about a sort of private investigator, Thraxas, who has the typical bumbling traits of a comic detective, including a rude manner (more offensive than hard-bitten) and an obsession with beer and gambling. Together with his sometime sidekick Makri, an escaped gladiator from the Orc Pits who is the first female student to attend the Guild College who works as a chainmail bikini-wearing waitress at the local tavern the Avenging Axe and just so happens to be the best warrior in the entire city of Turai, they run around offending people and solving crimes.

This is basically just fun comic fantasy, not epic or life-changing, but wonderful for anyone who likes the Hawk and Fisher series or Terry Pratchett's novels. I highly reccommend it.

Unless you're a hardcore programmer, don't buy this one.

I'm new to programming and, while I had some difficulty understanding the concepts within this title, I would not recommend this to anyone that's less than an intermediate level programmer. As opposed to titles that take you through the entire process of creating a website start to finish, this mostly introduces new concepts that help to build on your knowledge of ActionScript 2.0.

If you're wishing to feel a sense of accomplishment after reading this title cover-to-cover, you will be sorely disappointed. The sample exercises show how key concepts can enhance your web site/applications/scripts, but there is no end result that allows you to sit back and feel that you've accomplished anything substantial.

Any newbie to Flash wishing to increase their knowledge of ActionScript 2.0 should first learn how to create their own fully functional website using some ActionScript before tackling this book.

Good medium level book

My overall opinion of this book is that it is good. It covers a lot of ground and for those of you with some experience in Flash you will find this book will help you do more with the new version of Flash.

The layout of this book was in my opinion done very well; there are three main sections and the ActionScript reference is not one of them nor does it take up half the book. The first section is the "Getting Started" piece which goes over the basics which you may already be familiar. This section does go into some detail about what is new in Flash 8 and how to take advantage of these new features. One item I liked was learning about drawn lines and how I can tweak the end points or the corners in my drawn boxes/rectangles. Also there was the tween editor for manipulating how I wanted an object to tween. Great stuff since I am more of the coder than the designer.

The second part of the book is more familiar to me, it is on ActionScript. This material covers many of the classes and how to work with particular data types like Arrays and Strings. Also there is some Object Orientated Programming (OOP) information, just enough to whet an appetite but not that much to frustrate you to no end. There are plenty of books out there which focus on ActionScripting too much higher levels this book does a good job of getting you to a higher level without the heartache.

The last part of the book really hits on the current use of Flash as a dynamic medium, talking through middleware to a server or database. This is an extremely useful skill as a developer, the more you can do with Flash to communicate outside of the Flash player the better off you are. You will find material on ASP, PHP and even a chapter on Remoting. You will not find examples here that are too extreme but it will cover the basics so you can take what you glean from the text and do more on your own. One chapter I was pleased to see was one on functions, events and debugging. These three items are important to know how to use well for creating top notch Flash media. I was even surprised to see material on integrating JSFL into your development process, very welcome material.

I came to this book looking for information on the new version of Flash and to see what else I can do with it as a developer. Most everything I was looking for was here and the items I wanted to find and did not probably were too advanced for the book anyway. (No material on using Scale 9 and the material on uploading files was quite skimpy.) What I did get out of the book was enough to keep me busy for a while. If you have time over the holiday break this would be a good book to blow through so you can begin the New Year with some new skills and knowledge.

About the Author
Michael Nielsen was educated at the University of Queensland, and as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of New Mexico. He worked as the Richard Chace Tolman Fellow at Caltech at Los Alamos National Laboratory, was Foundation Professor of Quantum Information Science and a Federation Fellow at the University of Queensland, and a Senior Faculty Member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

Isaac Chuang is an Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, jointly appointed in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and in Physics. He leads the quanta research group at the Center for Ultracold Atoms, in the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics, which seeks to understand and create information technology and intelligence from the fundamental building blocks of physical systems, atoms and molecules.

A reprint of a very good reference book

Nielsen and Chuang's book can still be considered the main reference book on quantum information and computation, even after more than 10 years of the original release. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reference to start from.

However, if you already own the original version of the book, be warned that this book is basically a reprint of the first edition. It's true that it comes with a new introduction and afterword from the authors - but the new material is only 4 (four) pages long, and can be found online for free in this very site under the "Look inside" link. This is the reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 - I believe that a "10th Anniversary Edition" deserved a little bit more than 4 pages of new information, especially in the case of a book on a very dynamic field.

Kindle edition of this title is unreadable

This title is really promising, but on a Kindle it's absolutely unreadable. When a formula comes along (sometimes, three or four per page) I have to click and hold on the graphic, select "Zoom", and then view a grainy, digitized version of the formula. Because of the poor resolution, the formula is sometimes unreadable.

The same is true for illustrations. Worse yet, some symbols end up being in-lined graphics. "1/SQRT(2)", for example, shows the square root symbol and the number two as a graphic: "1/[]", where "[]" is a tiny square graphic. In this situation, I'm unable to select the graphic to expand it. If I can't guess the content of the formula from the context in the text, I'm simply stuck: I can't read the content.

I feel badly giving this book only two stars, but the Kindle version really is that unreadable. Amazon should be working to fix thee issues and make the Kindle a viable platform for technical books. As far as I can tell, Amazon scans titles and doesn't do adequate cleanup work for things (like formula with Greek characters and mathematical symbols) that don't reliably OCR. Poor content squanders the potential value in their platform, so you think they'd be motivated to make the platform work as well as possible.

Until Amazon come to their senses, you'll have to carry books like this (no matter how well-written) in your backpack instead of conveniently hosting them on your Kindle reader.

This book is definitely THE source to turn to for an understanding of Quantum Computation and Information. One can only read through the first chapter and you are given the key feature of Quantum Computation and Information. The advantage of this approach is that Chapter 1 establishes a Quantum roadmap of what you need to know. You can stop there or you can dive deeper into the technology. Using the remaining chapters as a reference or continuation of course studies.

But, it is the 10th Edition and I would have liked to see some new information associated with current trends in Quantum Computing. For examples:
1) Adiabatic verses Gate Arrays,
2) Quantum instructions examples, whether it is by circuit manipulation or by an Objective function,
3) A review section on quantum Notations (logic, Bra-kets, linear algebra) to help readers get back into it again.

This is THE book for those interested in finding out what is Quantum computers, but go slow with the first chapter and use the internet to clarify topics that are new to you, or to just refresh your memory. If you can skip through Chapter 1, you don't need the book.

Practical and tactical

Monday Morning Atheist was a great and quick read. What's important is that it helped not only shape my opinion of why and how to active with my faith in the marketplace, but it's a pragmatic book as well; sharing simple tips and stories on how to practically engage peers, clients and co-workers in conversations about Jesus. What's more, this is 'light' enough to read with a seeker or new Christian.

this book hit me where from the beginning . I was leaving GOD at home during the week and I did not realize it . I have since read the book and meeting with a group of business professionals to over come and to grow and include GOD in my work and all business form and functions it will change you business outlook and bring you closer to him .

Stop Your Incessant Monday Moaning!

Doug Spada, author of "Monday Morning Atheist," is leading a "Monday Revolution" to inspire the workforce to think differently--and biblically--about Mondays. He'd also like you to stop your incessant Monday moaning.

This revolution started with a deep dive into 10 years of research and field experience. "We began this project compiling 30 specific behavioral indicators that measure the integration of faith into everyday issues and key relationships at work. Over the last several years, we have presented this Index of On-the-Job Spiritual Health Indicators to over 5,000 Christians."

Released earlier this year, the spiritual health index listed "10 Most Common Workplace Issues," and included:
* "I do not manage stress and discouragement by practicing the principle of rest and recreation."
* "I do not see my work calling as really serving society and God."
* "I am not seeking and hearing God when making work decisions."
