About the Author
Jagdish N. Sheth is the Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing in the Goizueta Business School and the founder of the Center for Relationship Marketing (CRM) at Emory University. Prior to his present position, he was the Robert E. Brooker Professor of Marketing at the University of Southern California and the founder of the Center for Telecommunications Management; the Walter H. Stellner Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the University of Illinois, and on the faculty of Columbia University, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Sheth is nationally and internationally known for his scholarly contributions in Consumer Behavior, Marketing, Global Competition, and Strategic Thinking. Jag has published more than 200 books and research papers in different areas of marketing. His book The Theory of Buyer Behavior (1969) with John A. Howard is a classic in the field. He is also a co-author of Marketing Theory: Evolution and Evaluation (1988), Consumption Values and Market Choices (1991), Clients for Life (2000), ValueSpace: Winning the Battle for Market Leadership (2001), and The Rule of Three (2002). Professor Sheth has worked for numerous industries and companies in the United States, Europe, and Asia, both as an Advisor and as a Seminar Leader. His clients include AT&T, BellSouth, Comstream, Cox Communications, Ford, Motorola, Nortel, 3M, Whirlpool, and many more. He has offered more than 6,000 presentations in at least 20 countries.

Macro Marketing Trends in Emerging Markets

I am really interested in starting a business of my own so thought this book will give me trends to look for. Dr. Jag Sheth is known to be a visionary who has researched trends all his life. I found this book very well researched with how India and China will make a big difference in time to come and the triad of trade between US, India and China. The authors talk a lot about Pan-Asian currency and free trade in Sino-Asia, all makes sense. My best take-away was the rise of Africa with China investing a lot there. I did not know so manythings which I learnt and gave me a good idea about markets to look out for and may be follow to start my venture. Overall a decent book, though a quick read and doesnt goto Micro level. So if you are seeking very hardcore analysis, stay away from this book though this does a great job of macro perspectives of markets.

Good followup to "stormbringer ". Same witty style, and again humorous in the face of such historical tragedy. Strong characterization, and, again very well written. Am anxiously awaiting third book! Highly recommend this book.

Great Entertainment and Education

First "Stormbringer", now "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". Both wonderfully entertaining books. A great story, which continues and will hopefully continue (where is the third book, which was trumpeted for 2013?). And so informative and educational too, with so many little-known facts about the Second World War. Great detail on the cars, planes and weaponry of the era. But was there really a Hillman Imp at that time? The Imp I know of, and had experience with, was in the 1960s. There may have been an earlier Imp but I can not find on t'Interweb.

I get the impression that this second book was rushed out in response to the success of the first. It is really spoiled by so many errors and typos. I try not to be obsessive about apostrophes but - German's - really! Mr DeLacy should get an experienced copy reader or editor - ideally two or more - to sort this out. Then we will have a great couple of books - and the prospect of many more.

Gordon Holmes Fraser is a Christian "anti-Mormon" writer who has also written the books, Joseph and the golden plates: A close look at the Book of Mormon, A manual for Christian workers, Sects of the Latter-Day Saints - Part 1: The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - Part 2: The Polygamous Sects of Mormonism and (with Bob Witte) Whats Going On Here? An Exposing of the secret Mormon Temple Rituals.

In the Introduction to this 1965 book, Fraser asks, "are the Mormons Christians? If the term covers all who use the name of Christ in their titles or in their teaching, we would have to allow the Mormons their claim; but we would have to include them with the Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and most of the other metaphysical cults, as well as Unitarians, Universalists, Bahaists, and a host of other liberal adherents to the various Christian denominations which, originally, were completely orthodox."

Crispin ( Star Trek: Yesterday's Son ) has packed everything a die-hard Trekkie could want into this lighthearted romp with characters from the original series. Spock's father Sarek must uncover the origins of a plot to defame the Vulcans, for the dastardly scheme is only the first step in a plan to destroy the Federation. Needless to say, all of Sarek's respected diplomatic skills are needed to combat the villains. But Sarek is torn between doing his duty to the Federation or forsaking his beloved human wife Amanda, who is on her deathbed. Several subplots, including an interspecies romance between Kirk's nephew Peter and a Klingon girl add spice to the galactic stew. A lagniappe (for those readers who don't mind heavy sentimentality) is the addition of Amanda's journals, which are full of exotic details about life on Vulcan and heartfelt recollections of Sarek's and Spock's lives. Most of the best-loved characters put in appearances, and there are some amusing variations on the better known "trademark" lines. A rather jarring twist results when the normally repressed Spock becomes excessively emotional about his mother's demise. Though the plot ties up as neatly and simplistically as it would in a TV episode, this piece of fluff should be roundly loved by its target audience.

a new favorite

I loved this one, cause it really delves into Spock and Sarek's relationship, plus you get to see Amanda's point of view on things. It also show's a lot of her relationship with Sarek, shows the sentimental side of him that while loath to show it since it would be a emotional display it also makes you understand that they were truly in love and how they were able to make it work...because love is certainly not logical and humans are rather emotional about these things. I also enjoyed how it explained the falling out that Sarek and Spock had when Spock went into Starfleet. I've enjoyed the other books that I've read also that delve into the father/son relationship:

Continuation of the ST 6 movie

I liked this book. It was a well written treatment of the original series characters set immediately following Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. The additional characters were all excellent. Truly I would have loved to see this as a movie, but alas it would never come to pass now that both Mark Lenard, and Deforest Kelley are gone... The most interesting thing about this book, has to be the insight into Spock's father, Sarek. You read about motivations, and actions that shaped Spock. You have direct insight into why Sarek married a human. And you see more of the vulcan culture. A truly engrossing read!

Sarek - Definitely A Keeper!

As any Trekkie would do, I got this book that's about one of my favorite Vulcans.

This book is the heart-wrenching story of Sarek's deep love for Amanda, their courtship, marriage, and now his agony and fear at the realization of her terminal illness.

A.C. Crispin has a great way of representing the personalities of the characters, as well as the emotions. The anguish Sarek goes through, as well as other emotions, are well represented and touch the heart.

This is a MUST READ for any Star Trek Fan!

Still, from his father Vince Lombardi learned a sense of presence and authority that could impress itself with just a look. In the history of American sports, no coach has been mythologized as much as the Green Bay Packers' Vince Lombardi (who has been immortalized with, among other tributes, a rest station on the New Jersey Turnpike). Yet this fine biography from a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the Washington Post is a blast of cool air among the usually overheated roster of sports biographies. From Lombardi's formative years as a player and coach at Fordham University through assistantships with West Point and the Giants and, finally, to his tenure as head coach of the Packers, Maraniss presents a portrait of a complicated human being who was a great teacher but a mediocre listener, an effective psychologist despite being rife with flaws. Though he often got hurt as a college athlete, Lombardi, as a coach, scorned players who couldn't withstand injury. His relationship with his wife and children was less than ideal. But Maraniss doesn't succumb to any reductive assessments of Lombardi as "tragic" or "heroic." As legend suggests, Lombardi was indeed a great motivator, but his success also derived from a cerebral approach to the game. The book's true punch comes from its myriad subplots: a hero from one small town (early 20th-century Brooklyn) revitalizing another in the Upper Midwest, or professional football and Lombardi coming into their own at roughly the same time. Maraniss spends far too much time on people and events whose influence on Lombardi isn't made apparent, and he relies too much on other sportswriters' descriptions of games. A big book about a big man...

... and some would say both were too big. Assuming you buy into the presumption that a biography on an NFL football coach (even if that coach is Lombardi himself) is worthy of 500 pages, than you will, no doubt, enjoy this particular tome. Maraniss is a terrific writer and researcher and it comes through clearly. However, during certain passages, I felt he was either striving to make it to the magical 500-page hurdle, or simply would have benefited from better editing. He excels at humanizing this mythical character and, in fact, tackles (sorry) head on the myth surrounding Lombardi that has been created during the 30 years since his death. Lombardi was no saint, and Maraniss is not afraid to point that out, unlike certain biographers (such as A. Scott Berg's treatment of Lindbergh) who end up "liking" their subjects so much that they end up apologizing for certain actions. Maraniss is not afraid to point out Lombardi's flaws, and he had several of them, primarily in the treatment of his wife and children. Maraniss paints scenes beautifully, and in so doing brings his subject to life. There is a wonderful description of a dinner-table scene in which Lombardi's wife, Marie, and two children, Vincent and Susan, sit silently and expectantly waiting for Vince to say something. He finally clears his throat... Marie and children sit up with great expectation, waiting for the jewels of wisdom to pour forth from the coach... a greeting... a story from his busy day... anything that recognizes their presence. All that is said, however, is, "Pass the salt, Marie." Could there be a better way to convey the isolation each of the family members experienced? Lombardi was terrifically successful on the football field, and that is how his true worth will always be measured. Unfortunately, his family members may have been using a different measuring stick.

For many people, Vince Lombardi is forever tied to his saying "winning isn't everything - it's the only thing." He stands as a figurehead of the old school of coaching, before they spouted pop psychology and wrote success books. Dave Maraniss' masterful book goes beyond this legend to provide a sensitive and multi-dimensional portrait of a leadership figure who was, in many ways, far ahead of his time.
Lombardi was as focused on winning as anyone in sports, and he didn't suffer fools gladly. But he also valued diversity, respect, and managing people as individuals. He wouldn't tolerate racism or homophobia at a time when there was too much of both in the sports world. Above all, he mixed equal parts of emotion and intellect to elevate his profession to another level.

THE BEST OF THE BOOKS ON THE GREEN BAY PACKERS

Though I'm strictly a baseball fan, I did follow Lombardi's Packers in the 1960's. This is not only the best of the Packer books, including the classic "Instant Replay", it is one of the very best books I have ever read on any subject. I liked it so much I ordered four extra copies for friends who are Packer fans. David Maraniss does a thorough job of research on Lombardi and portrays him as a human being, warts and all, instead of the icon that some make him out to be. Parts that stood out for me was how hard he personally took the suspension of Paul Hornung, which reminded him of Red Blaik's experience with cheating players at West Point. The continued demand of excellence took it toll on Lombardi, and he really left the Packer coaching job an exhausted man. The often told Jim Ringo story of his trade to Philadelphia didn't happen the way many books have told it. Lombardi often stressed the importance of God, family, and the Green Bay Packers in that order, but reality showed the order to be God, the Green Bay Packers, and family last. His immediate family suffered and his own children felt he was more affectionate with children of his players than he was with them. One also gets the feeling that he wasn't really disappointed with the showing of the Phil Bengston Packers, feeling that the slipage of the Packers was due to his not being there. Anecdotes of others notables such as Otto Graham, Packer announcers Ray Scott and Tony Canadeo, George Wilson, in addition to the Packer players make this a simply outstanding book to add to your library. About the Author

HUNG-GAY FUNG, PhD, is Curators' Professor of Finance, Dr. Y. S. Tsiang Endowed Chair Professor of Chinese Studies, and department chair in the Finance and Legal Studies Department, College of Business Administration, University of Missouri-St. Louis. His areas of research and teaching include international finance, financial risk management, and banking. He has published over 150 scholarly papers in various journals. He has also published seven books, numerous book chapters, and many teaching cases.

GLENN KO, CFA, is an executive director of the UBS Asian Credit Research team, covering corporate credits. He focuses on Chinese properties and industrials. He has extensive experience in Asia's straight and convertible bond markets, with previous work experience in proprietary trading desks, sell-side research, and rating advisory at financial institutions, such as Daiwa, JPMorgan and HSBC. Prior to these, he worked at Moody's as a credit rating analyst.

JOT YAU, PhD, CFA, is Dr. Khalil Dibee Endowed Chair in Finance at the Albers School of Business and Economics, Seattle University. Since joining Seattle University in 2001, he has served as the chair of the department of finance and MSF program director. He has published numerous articles and chapters in finance journals and professional books. He is the coeditor and coauthor of two books. He has served on several editorial boards, and was the associate editor and special editor (Risk Management) of the Journal of Alternative Investments. He cofounded Strategic Options Investment Advisors Ltd., a Hong Kong-based investment advisory firm.
